1 Gilbert Vega

SJSU: In his third season with the Spartans. Gilbert Vega sat out last season. 1999: Vega played in 12 games and started 11 times. He allowed 15 goals (1.29 GAA), had 29 saves and recorded one shutout. 1998: Vega started the first 16 games of the 1998 season until an injury forced him to miss the remainder of the season. He was one of the top goalkeepers in the Western Athletic Conference with a 1.16 goals against average. He was credited with four shutouts including three during the team’s season-opening nine-game winning streak.

FRESNO STATE: Vega attended Fresno State in 1997, where he redshirted.

HIGH SCHOOL: Vega was a four-time all-league soccer player at Madera (Calif.) High School. He became the first player in school history to play soccer at the college level. He set the school record for the most shutouts his freshman season, with 18.

PERSONAL: Gilbert Jose Vega was born on Sept. 9, 1979, in Madera, Calif. His parents are Joe and Eva Vega. He has a brother, David (17), and a sister, Nancy (13). He is majoring in sociology with a minor in criminal justice administration. He enjoys fishing, cooking, hiking and table tennis.
