SAN FRANCISCO -- Jorge Martinez and Frank Sanfilippo each scored a goal about 10 minutes apart in the second half to propel 24th-ranked San Jose State University to a 2-0 win over the USF Friday night. With their first road victory of the season, the Spartans are now 4-0 overall.
Martinez took advantage of a bad clearance by a USF defender and scored from about 10 yards out. The goal was scored at the 67:34 mark. Nearly 10 minutes later Sanfilippo took the rebound from a missed Martinez shot and knocked the ball into an empty net.
Martinez leads the Spartans with five goals, four assists and 14 points. Sanfilippo's goal was his first of the year.
San Jose State goalkeeper Chris Humphreys recorded his third consecutive shutout. Humphreys, who has not allowed a goal in 3 1/2 games, was credited with three saves during the game.
The Spartans return to action Sunday with a 1:00 p.m. game at Sacramento State.
