Woodside, Calif. - San Jose State junior striker Jonathan Salceda was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) men’s soccer Player of the Week for the week of September 3-9, it was announced Tuesday.
Salceda, out of San Jose’s Leland High School, was involved in four of the five Spartan goals, collecting a 2012 MPSF-high six points on two goals and two assists, en route to a 5-3 win at Santa Clara.
Off his 38th- minute throw-in, the Spartans got the equalizer in a 1-1 match. Salceda then drove down the sideline, and in a one-on-one confrontation with the ‘keeper, tucked the ball to the near post for a 2-1 lead in the 68th-minute. In the 80th-minute, he bent a shot from mid-field into an open net after the ‘keeper misplayed a clearing kick. Finally in the 82nd-minute, he assisted on what would be the game-winner.
This is Salceda’s first MPSF Player of the Week honor and the first for a Spartan this season.
