Sweet Revenge and a Bump in the Road
Hi, everyone, and welcome back! Since my last blog, the team has gone through some highs and lows.
Last Tuesday, we beat UC Davis, 4-1. The result really showed how much we wanted to get those guys back after losing to them last year, 2-0. Even though they scored the first goal, we did a great job of coming back and finding a way to win, and win big. I give credit to everyone for not giving up and being determined to win the game. A special congrats to my co-captain, Oscar (Monjaras), for calmly netting his first (collegiate) goal from the penalty spot. Well done, Fishy!
I want to thank everyone who made it out to the game. It was very nice to have the numbers in the stands, as we always love to play in front of a big crowd. Please keep coming out and supporting us!
The following night, we had the Soccer Kick-Off Night at the Silicon Valley Capital Club, which was yet another success! We left Thursday afternoon for our first of many road trips this year, this one to Oregon State. Everyone traveled this trip, so for many, this was very new, and an experience for everyone to get accustomed to as we travel a lot this year. Our game against Oregon State didn't go as well as we would have liked, as we lost, 3-1. We had many chances to grab the lead, as well as tie, but things just didn't go our way at all. We did not establish our game as we did against UC Davis, which led to our fall in the game.
Afterward, we had to remind ourselves that we cannot win every single game we play this year, but when we do lose, we need to find a way to rebound from that, and put out a better effort the next time out. Our next game was against Houston Baptist. The weather was not the greatest, as we had a few-minute rain delay in our warm-up. After that, the rain held up and the game began. Once again, it did not go as planned. We lost, 1-0, as they got a goal with five minutes left. We did score a great goal, coming from Josh (Boemecke). However, for some reason, he was called offsides. Once again, we were left asking ourselves what we need to do to get the results we want. The answer that we all came up with together was heart and determination. We needed to outwork our opponents, as we did against UC Davis. We did not show this over the weekend, and it is what we decided to work on this week in practice. To some success, we were able to prepare ourselves for this weekend, for two tough matches against LMU and UC Riverside. I hope all of you can keep an eye on us, as we are looking to rebound from this past weekend and come home with a winning record.
Take care, Spartan fans, and GO SPARTANS!!!
