Spartans Lose Overtime Battle At UC Davis

Davis, Calif. -----  San Jose State played UC Davis to a 0-0 tie in regular time until being downed in overtime, 1-0, on September 5.  With the loss, the Spartans' fall to 2-1 on the season, while the Aggies improve to 1-1.

The game's only goal was scored in the 97th minute by Lance Patterson of the Aggies.  The assist was credited to John Joslin.

Although the Spartans were out-shot 20-7 on the day, San Jose State had a number of scoring chances in overtime, evening the shot count at 1-1.  Josh Boemecke led the Spartans with three of the team's seven shots.  Boemecke came close to pounding one in at the 66:02 mark, but UC Davis back-up goalkeeper Tommy Siragusa made a diving save.

Jonathan Lester, stayed in goal through 97:50 and made three saves.  UC Davis started with goalkeeper Ryan McCowan for the first three minutes, later changing to Siragusa for the duration of the match.  Siragusa was credited with 2 saves.

San Jose State returns to action on Friday, September 10, in the Cal State Fullerton Tournament.  The Spartans face host Cal State Fullerton at 7:00 p.m.
