Men's Soccer Beaten Late By Houston Baptist

Corvallis, Ore. - The San Jose State University men's soccer team allowed a late goal to fall to Houston Baptist University, 1-0, on the final day of the OSU/Nike Challenge at Paul Lorenz Field on Sunday afternoon, September 6.

A second straight loss away from home following a 4-1 season-opening victory over No. 24 UC Davis, puts the Spartan record at 1-2. Houston Baptist earns its first win of 2009 to move to 1-2.

The lone goal in the match came off the foot of the Huskies' Leonel Munoz at the 85:08 mark. It was Houston Baptist's first score of the season following 2-0 and 3-0 neutral-site defeats to Central Arkansas and Cal State Bakersfield to begin the year.

Sophomore Jonathan Lester started and played all 90 minutes in goal for the Spartans, making one save. Chris Dodd had a pair of stops for the Huskies. The Spartans out-shot HBU, 8-7. Both teams had a pair of attempts on goal.

The Spartans conclude a season-long four-match road stretch at LMU and UC Riverside next weekend.
