Irvine, Calif.-----Johnny Gonzalez had a goal and an assist for San Jose State University as the Spartans remained unbeaten with a 2-0 non-conference victory over UC Irvine in a men’s soccer contest.

Gonzalez scored on a penalty kick at 34:40 and assisted on Eric Rodriguez’s breakaway goal at the 89:33 mark as San Jose State improved its record to 2-0-1. Gonzalez has scored a goal in each of the last two games.

Junior Eddie Dominguez was credited with three saves in his first complete-game shutout of the season.

UC Irvine, which was out-shot by the Spartans, 9-8, lost its first game of the season to fall to 2-1.

San Jose State concludes its two-game Southern California road trip when it takes on UC Riverside, Sunday, September 7.
