San Jose State defeated CS Monterey Bay, 4-0, in the Spartans' second regular season game on Friday evening at Spartan Stadium. Josh Boemecke, Nick Cukar, Stephen Cordova and Nick Cashmere each added a goal.
The Spartans got on the scoreboard in the 20th minute when Boemecke launched a header into the middle top of the net after receiving a cross from Allen La Spina. The Spartans dominated play in the first half, holding a 12-0 advantage in shots and a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Cukar doubled up the Spartans' lead at 53:06 when he shot from the box, receiving a pass from Justin Castro. Cordova added a goal nearly ten minutes later, originating from a corner kick by Nick Cashmere. Cashmere later knocked one in from 10 yards out at 86:40, unassisted.
"We played extremely well tonight. We gained our confidence back and it's good to have all of our players see playing time and play in a combined effort," said San Jose State mid fielder Cukar."
Spartan goalkeepers Rene Martinez and Doug Highton were both behind the net for the Spartans. Martinez played for 68 minutes and Highton, 22 minutes. Both goalkeepers did not have to make a save in the 90 minutes of action.
San Jose State improves its record to 2-0-0, while CS Monterey drops to 0-0-1. The Spartans will next face UC Davis on the road, Sunday, September 5 at 5:00 p.m.
