Men's Soccer Team Ties Gauchos In Close Contest

SAN JOSE—Tim McKinney scored San Jose State’s only goal of the match Sunday afternoon as the Spartan men’s soccer team tied UC Santa Barbara 1-1, in a non-conference match at Spartan Stadium.

McKinney tied the match at 1-1 at 59:52 on a breakaway pass from Francisco Martinez. The Spartans ended the match with 18 shots including eight on goal.

The Gauchos scored the only goal of the first half as Neil Jones scored 15 yards out from the goal on a Memo Arzate pass. UCSB had 17 shots and seven shots on the goal for the day.

SJSU looked to have won the match in the final three minutes of the second overtime, but Johnny Gonzales was called offsides in the box.

San Jose State will travel to UC Irvine on Friday and at UC Riverside on Sunday. The team returns home on Tuesday, September 23, to face Santa Clara at Spartan Stadium.
