Men's Soccer Dominates Argonauts In Victory

SAN JOSE—Six different Spartan players scored as the San Jose State men’s soccer team defeated Notre Dame de Namur, 6-0, Friday afternoon at the Spartan Soccer Field.

Chris Mackey started the Spartan scoring at 7:41 with a header off a corner kick. Eric Rodriguez scored the second goal of the game at 44:05 off passes from Artin Rodriguez and Tim McKinney. SJSU goalie Daniel Benton stopped three Argonaut shots in the first period, while NDNU goalie Mike Whittaker made four saves.

The Spartans broke out in the second period with four goals on six shots. Randy Poggio scored at 51:27 on a penalty kick. John Gonzalez scored on a point blank shot on a Francisco Martinez pass at 55:41. McKinney scored his first goal of the match at 79:48 on a breakaway goal as Argonaut goalie David Montgomery left the net. Ryan Rundle finished the scoring at 88:30 with a header off a corner kick.

For the match, SJSU took 18 shots compared to four for Notre Dame de Namur. San Jose State will look to stay undefeated Sunday afternoon against UC Santa Barbara. The match begins at 1:00 p.m. at Spartan Stadium.
