Men's Soccer Hosts Cal Poly On Sunday

San Jose, Calif. - The San Jose State men's soccer team plays its second match of the 2012 season on Sunday against the Cal Poly Mustangs.

MEN'S SOCCER TICKETS

Tickets for all San Jose State men's soccer home games are free for all SJSU students with a valid student ID.  Adult tickets are $5.00, $3.00 for youth (12 and under) and $1 for any child wearing a jersey.

Groups of 20 or more can buy discounted tickets at $3.00 per person.  The ticket office opens one hours prior to kick-off at Spartan Stadium or can be purchased by calling San Jose State Athletics Ticket Office at 408-924-SJTX (7589).      

SCOUTING CAL POLY

The Mustangs are coming off a 6-9-3 record in 2011, they were 3-6-1 in Big West Conference action and posted a 1-4-1 record in road contests.

This year they are 0-2-0 after dropping road matches last weekend.  They fell 1-0 at Seattle and 2-0 at Washington. 

Top returners include strikers Ian Clark (2G, 4 Pts in 2011) and Dakota Collins (2G, 1A, 5 Pts in 2011).  This year they have been getting offensive production from Mackenzie Pridham, who leads the side with six shots, two on frame.  Alex Loeffelman and Matt LaGrassa have taken three shots each.

Wade Hamilton (1.50 GAA, .500 save %) has played all the team's minutes in goal and has a 0-2-0 record. 

Paul Holocher is in his sixth season leading the Cal Poly program and his 13th overall.  He had a 51-44-22 record with the Mustangs entering this year.

LAST TIME OUT

The Spartans opened their regular season at home againt San Francisco on Sunday dropping a 2-0 decision.

San Jose State had six players in the starting lineup who made their major college debut and a total of eight who saw action at this level for the first time.

The Spartans spread its its offense around, getting shots from six different players, but a pair of second have goals by USF were the difference.

Michael Schwinn (Fr., GK, Mechernich, Germany) made his major college debut in a start against USF (8/24) and had two saves.

Nick Murphy (Sr., D, San Francisco, Calif.) made his first start of the year against USF (8/24).

Christian Romero (Sr., D, Sacramento, Calif.) made his first start of the year against USF (8/24).

Steven Sanchez (Sr., F, San Jose, Calif.) made his first start of the year against USF (8/24) and took one shot.

Mauricio Murillo (Jr., MF, Santa Clara, Calif.) made his first start of the year against USF (8/24) and took one shot.

Israel Ayala (Fr., MF, Richmond, Calif.) made his major college debut in a start against USF (8/24) and took one shot.

Jasper Pipe (Fr., F, Sydney, Australia) made his major college debut in a start against USF (8/24) and took one shot which was on goal.

Jonathan Salceda (Jr., F, San Jose, Calif.) made his first start of the year against USF (8/24).

Kyler McLaughlin (Fr., D, San Diego, Calif.) made his major college debut in a start against USF (8/24).

Enrique Montano (So., MF, Salinas, Calif.) made his major college debut in a start against USF (8/24) and took one shot which was on goal.

Frankie Beauchamp (So., MF, San Francisco, Calif.) made his major college debut in a start against USF (8/24).

Diego Ochoa (Sr., MF, San Jose, Calif.) made his first appearance of the year against USF (8/24).

Dylan Murphy (Sr., D, San Francisco, Calif.) made his first appearance of the year against USF (8/24) and took one shot.
