San Jose, Calif. – The San Jose State University men’s soccer team begins its preparation for the 2005 season on Sunday, August 14, at 9:00 a.m. on Spartan Field.

Head coach Gary St. Clair’s Spartans will start things off with a trio of "triple days" from August 14-16, with 90-minute sessions at 9:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. each day. From Wednesday, August 17, through Saturday, August 20, the schedule will be pared down to "double days," at 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. The team will not practice on Sunday, August 21.

With over 40 student-athletes expected to be present for the first practice on August 14, St. Clair will need to trim the roster down within the first few days of training.

"Like every coach and player coming into a new season, optimism and excitement are running high," says St. Clair, now entering his 16th season at the helm. "I’m very glad that (the season) is coming, and I look forward to seeing what kind of a team we can put together. We have lots of good, exciting new players, and a good base of returning players. I’m as excited as anybody else is to see what this team produces."

All practices are at Spartan Field and are open to the public.

San Jose State hosts UC Santa Cruz in an exhibition game on Friday, August 26, at Spartan Stadium beginning at 5:00 p.m. The Spartan women’s team will play its regular-season opener immediately following that contest, against UC Irvine, at 7:30 p.m.

The Spartan men hit the field for real on Thursday, September 1, hosting Stanford in a non-conference match at Spartan Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. San Jose State will have 11 regular-season home games in all in 2005, with seven at Spartan Stadium and four at Spartan Field.
