Lyssand Scores Twice as the San Jose State Men's Soccer Team Beats UC Santa Barbara

Santa Barbara, Calif.— Midfielder Lars Lyssand scored two goals and an assist as the San Jose State men’s soccer team won at UC Santa Barbara, 3-1, Sunday afternoon. The Spartans scored three goals in the second half to break the Gauchos 1-0 halftime lead.

Lyssand factored in all three of the Spartan goals, and tied the game with his first goal at 51:00 off a Michael Patrick pass. It took Lyssand less than 10 minutes to break the tie as Frank Mata fed him the ball, scoring the eventual game winner at the 60:00 mark.

Frank Mata scored the final goal of the game off a Lyssand assist, as the Spartans held the Gauchos scoreless the remainder of the game.

Lyssand began the week as the leading goal scorer in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. The win improves the Spartans record to 4-2-0 on the year.

The Spartans will host the University of San Francisco. on Sept. 27 at Spartan Stadium for a 7:30 p.m. game.
