San Jose State Men's Soccer Will Play Denver in First Round of the MPSF Championship

SAN JOSE, Calif.—Four days after losing to the University of Denver, the San Jose State University men’s soccer team will play the Pioneers in the first round of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship Tournament.

The Spartans are looking to win their second consecutive MPSF Championship in the eight-team postseason tournament at Fresno State University’s Bulldog Stadium, beginning Thursday, Nov. 8. The tournament continues on Friday, Nov. 9 with the semifinal round and the championship match will be played at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11.

With the loss Sunday against Denver and UNLV’s win over New Mexico, the Spartans dropped into sixth place in the final MPSF standings. A win by Sacramento State over San Diego State and the win against the Spartans put Denver in third place in the final conference standings.

Thursday’s action begins at 12:00 p.m. when number one seeded Sacramento State faces the eighth seed New Mexico. In the 2:30 p.m. match, fourth seeded San Diego State will plays the fifth seed UNLV. The final match of the first round will have number two seeded Air Force facing the tournament host and seventh seed Fresno State.

On Friday in the semifinal round, the winner of the Sacramento State and New Mexico match will face the winner of the San Diego State UNLV game at 5:00 p.m. The winner of the San Jose State and Denver game will face the winner of the Air Force and Fresno match at 7:30 p.m.
