Men's soccer honors "Easy" Perez and Derek Evans; nets $24,000 with annual golf tournament

The San Jose State University men's soccer booster club honored Spartan greats Ismael "Easy" Perez and Derek Evans at its annual golf tournament held on May 24. Perez and Evans were given "Lifetime Achievement Awards." The tournament, dinner and awards banquet netted $24,000 for the program.

Perez remains the school's all-time leader scoring leader after 25 years with 173 points on 75 goals and 23 assists. He led the NCAA in scoring in 1975 and 1976.

Evans, who starred at San Jose State with Perez, went on in 1979 to play for Edmonton of the North American Soccer League. He also played for the San Jose Earthquakes in 1980 and 1981. He coaches boys soccer at Bella Vista High School in Fair Oaks, Calif.
