Men's soccer's annual golf tournament, set for May 12, is sold out

San Jose, Calif. The annual golf tournament and lifetime achievement awards dinner put on by the San Jose State men’s soccer team’s booster club, set for Friday, May 12, at Coyote Creek Country Club, has been sold out, head coach Gary St. Clair announced.

“This is the second year in a row that the event has sold out,” remarked St. Clair. “It is a tremendous thing for both our players and our program, that we have so many good people who are willing to help us become great.”

The annual event raises funds for the Spartan men’s soccer program, and brings together members of the San Jose State men’s soccer community.

“Our golf tournament has become a gathering for our alumni and supporters,” St. Clair added. “It is great to see the history of the program come together to celebrate and support San Jose State soccer.”

Several tournament sponsorship packages were available for this year’s event, as well as registration fees for individuals and foursomes. In addition, silent and live auctions will be held after the tournament at the awards dinner.

“This tournament also provides us the resources for some basic services in our program, and gives us the opportunity to have a visible presence in the department, University and the soccer community,” St. Clair said.

This year’s lifetime achievement award honorees are Luis Mintequi, part of the Spartan soccer program in 1967 and 1968, and Steve Sampson, a program participant in 1977 and 1978.

“We look forward to honoring both Luis and Steve,” commented St. Clair. “Thousands of San Jose State soccer alumni have gone on to become valuable and important members of this city and region. The tournament gives them a chance to connect with our current student-athletes.”
