Men's Soccer Adds State Team Player For 2007

San Jose, Calif. - San Jose State University head men’s soccer coach Gary St. Clair has announced the signing of an eighth prospect to a National Letter-of-Intent for the 2007 season.

Steve Dongo, out of Davis, Calif., and currently attending Davis Senior High School, is now a sixth incoming player with Olympic Development Program experience who St. Clair has added for 2007. Dongo was a member of the Cal-North state team from 2003-05.

Dongo joins Zlatko Bijelic, Bernabe Camacho, Justin Castro, Ricky Dorrego, Robert Jackson, Kachiside Madu and Brent Young, all of whom committed earlier in the signing season. Dorrego, Camacho and Young have played together this past year for the ODP Region IV team. Castro and Jackson play on state teams for California and Nevada, respectively.

“Steve is one of the most exciting prospects we have had in a few years,” remarked St. Clair, who will be in his 18th season in charge at his alma mater in 2007. “He is a player with tremendous upside. He has very good size. He is very fast, quick, and has quick feet. He is a proven goal-scorer, and that is really the key. This is a kid who could be a top Division I striker.”

Dongo led Davis High School to the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I title in 2006, earning first-team Delta Valley Conference honors. In 2007, he finished as the top scorer with 33 goals.

At the club level, Dongo joined the Davis Gunners in 2006, averaging over 50 goals per season over the last three years.
