San Francisco, Calif.----- San Jose State University scored its two goals 23 seconds apart in the second half in a 5-2 loss to the University of San Francisco.
Zach Penner and Eduardo Buenfil each scored their first goal of the season for the Spartans. Penner picked up a loose ball in front of USF goalkeeper Andre Glasnovic and found the back of the cage at 58:39. Buenfil's goal at 59:02 cut the Spartans' deficit to 3-2 before Sean Bowman's second score of the match gave USF a needed insurance score at 65:37.
The Dons (2-7) took a 3-0 lead into intermission on an 11-minute outburst midway through the first half. Santiago DiGiuseppe opened the scoring at 21:18. Leon Schwarzer assisted on Bowman's first goal at 29:03 to give USF a 2-0 lead and then was successful on a penalty kick at 32:27 for the final score of the first half.
David Heredia made his appearance of the season in goal for San Jose State and was credited with five saves. Ruben Stuiver had one for USF playing the entire first half and the first three minutes of the second half. Glasnovic had two saves in the nearly 42 minutes in the second half.
San Jose State closes out the weekend hosting the University of San Diego in a 3:00 p.m. at the Spartan Soccer Complex located near the corner of 10th and Alma in San Jose.
