Kevin Velo & Darriell Franklin Are October Student-Athletes Of The Month

Men’s golfer Kevin Velo and women’s soccer defender Darriell Franklin are the Spartan Foundation Student-Athletes of the Month for October, presented by O’Connor Hospital.
 
Velo, a junior from Danville, Calif., had a pair of top-five finishes during October. He finished tied for second at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational with a career-best 14-under par 199. Velo finished fourth at the Visit Stockton Invitational where he shot a 9-under 207. He led the field that week in par-four scoring, making eight birdies. During the month of October Velo lowered his season stroke-average to 69.91 per round.
 
Franklin scored a team-leading five goals from the defender position during October while leading the Spartans to a 6-1-1 record. The junior from La Habra, Calif., scored twice in SJSU’s comeback 3-2 win over UNLV. She was on the field for all 90 minutes of three shutouts during the month, and was named the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year at the conclusion of regular season play.
