Men's Golf 14-Under Par; Gibbs 4th at Pacific Invitational

Stockton, Calif.-----For the second day in a row, San Jose State University posted an under-par team score at the Pacific Invitational men’s golf tournament. The Spartans were five-under par and are in seventh place with a 14-under par 562 total heading into the final 18 holes on November 7.

Freshman Peter Gibbs continued to lead San Jose State posting a second-round 69 and is tied for fourth place in the individual race with an eight-under par 136. Gibbs had four birdies to offset a bogey on hole #17. The Granite Bay resident is three-strokes behind University of North Carolina Charlotte’s Stefan Wiedergruen, the first-round co-leader, who is at 133.

Nick Delio of Cal State Northridge, the other first-round co-leader, is tied with Kansas State’s Joe Ida at 134. Gibbs is one of five golfers tied for fourth at 136.

In the team competition, Kansas State widened its lead to six shots and is at 547, 29-under par. North Carolina Charlotte is second at 553 and UC Davis is third at 556.

San Jose State’s 14-under par score is its best for 36 holes since a 15-under par start at the 2006 Alister MacKenzie Invitational in Corte Madera, Calif. The Spartans had a chance for an even lower score, but had 11 bogeys among the counting scores of Gibbs, Mark Hubbard, Stephan Stallworth and Drew Nottenkamper. Hubbard, also a freshman, was the only other San Jose State player under par for the middle round with a two-under 70.
