Men's Golf Finishes 10th At Pacific Invitational

Stockton, Calif.-----San Jose State University’s Mark Hubbard and Jay Myers each carded two-under par 69’s for a top-20 individual finish in the final round of the Pacific Invitational men’s golf tournament.

The two Spartans were among six players tied for 20th with 212 totals on the par 71, 6,757-yard Brookside Country Club course. For Hubbard, his 69 was his second under par round in as many days. The junior from Denver had three birdies and a bogey over the final 18 holes. Myers started quickly with an eagle on the 10th hole, his first of the day, and added three birdies en route to his season-best 69.

As a team, the Spartans started the day 11th and finished in tenth place at 869 after a final round team score of 291. UC Davis, the team leader going into the last 18 holes, held on with an 832 to edge out Brigham Young and Oregon. Brigham Young, with the day’s best team score at 275, was second at 833 and Oregon was next at 834.

Fresno State at 842 and Kansas State at 843 rounded out the top five teams in the 12-team field.

UC Davis’ Tyler Raber completed a start-to-finish victory. Despite a one-over par 72, Raber’s 199 was four strokes better than Oregon’s Eugene Wong, who shared the first round lead with the champion at seven-under par 64. Brigham Young’s Brady Johnson finished at 204 and in third place one stroke behind Wong.

Rosco Valentine was San Jose State’s third best finisher tying for 42nd place at 221. Stephan Stallworth at 224 and Nick Brown, at 235, were the Spartans’ remaining entries.

San Jose State returns to action in February 2010 competing in the 21st annual Mauna Loa Invitational hosted by the University of Hawaii, February 1-3.
