Men's Golf Fall Season Finale Starts Monday At The Gifford Collegiate

Blick leads the nation in scoring average with an average score of 67.67 over nine rounds.

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- The San José State University men’s golf team wraps up their fall season starting on Monday, November 2, at The Gifford Collegiate Championship tournament in Carlsbad, Calif.

15 schools will participate at the par-71, 6,996-yard La Costa Resort as the field includes: Arkansas, Colorado, Harvard, Marquette, Northwestern, Oregon, San Diego State, San José State, South Florida, Stanford, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Washington, Wisconsin and host, UCLA.

The 54-hole tournament will be played over three days with 18 holes each day. The format is a stroke play event with five-man teams. The team champion will be determined by totaling the four best individual scores per round. The lowest 54-stroke play score will decide the individual champion. In case of a tie in either team or individual play, no sudden death playoff will occur as co-champions will be declared.

The Gifford Collegiate is San José State's final tournament until the spring season which begins on February 4, 2016.




The Spartans last competed on October 23 - 25 at the Price’s Give ‘Em Five Invitational in El Paso, Texas finishing 11th out of 15 teams shooting three-over 867.

The lineup featured: Cody Blick, Taylor Bromley, Matthew Murray, Henrik Sohlberg and Kevin Velo.  Scott Munger played as an individual.

Blick was the low man for the Spartans shooting 11-under 205, tying him for third place. 


In the first three tournaments of the 2015 fall season, Blick has finished in the top-three in each tournament with one win and two third place finishes. 

The strong start propelled Blick to a number two ranking among NCAA men’s Division I players in’s initial rankings, behind Stanford Maverick McNealy. 


The last and only time the San José State men’s golf played at The Gifford Collegiate was during the 2012 – 2013 season.  Blick and Bromley are the lone holdovers as the tournament was played at the par-71, 7,360 yard Corde Valle Country Club in San Martin, Calif. 

The Spartans finished sixth out of 10 teams.  Blick tied for 16th at four-over 217 and Bromley did not finish.
