Freshmen Lead Way at Alister MacKenzie Men's Golf

Corte Madera, Calif.-----Freshmen Peter Gibbs and Mark Hubbard each shot a one-under par 70 in the final round of the Alister MacKenzie Invitational men’s golf tournament.

Gibbs notched four birdies to offset three bogeys on the par 71 Meadow Course for his second straight under par round of the 54-hole tournament. He finished with a one-under par 212 total and in a tie for 32nd place.

Hubbard had three birdies and two bogeys for his first under par round in major college competition. His 220 total tied him for 66th place.

In the team competition, San Jose State finished in 14th place with an 863 total. San Diego State overtook second-round leader Washington to take home top team honors with an 828 total. Washington came in second at 832. UC Irvine at 833 and Oregon and Fresno State at 836 rounded out the top five teams in the 16-team field.

Louisville’s Daryl Fathauer was the tournament medalist with a 200 total following a final-round 72. Todd Angel of Fresno State was second at 202.

San Jose State returns to action, Wednesday, October 24, at the Del Walker Invitational in Long Beach, Calif.
