Men's Golf Fourth After 36 At Rees Jones

Daufuskie Island, S.C.-----With Jay Myers and Mark Hubbard among the top-10 individuals, San Jose State University is in fourth place after 36 holes in the 10-team field of the Rees Jones Intercollegiate men's golf tournament.

            Myers, one of six players in the 55-player field, with one under par round on the par 72, Haig Point Golf Club course, is tied for fifth at four-over par 148. The San Jose State junior fired an opening round 71 before finishing the day with a 77.

Hubbard, winner of the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational on September 28, is alone in seventh place at 149. The senior from Denver, Colo., continued his superb play on par-5 holes leading the field with his three-under par total. For his last five rounds, Hubbard is 10-under par playing par-5's.

            Myers and Hubbard's teammate, Matthew Hovan, also is in the top-20 locked in a seven-way tie for 11th place at 153. Nick Brown at 156 is tied for 23rd and Justin Estrada, tied for 35th at 160, round out the Spartans' squad.

            San Jose State has a team total of 606 and is within three shots of second place. Kennesaw State of Georgia, tied with the Spartans after the morning round at 301, posted the day's low 18-hole team score in the afternoon with a 292 for a 593 total. Liberty of Virginia is second at 603 and Wofford, based in South Carolina, is third at 605.

            Matt Nagy of Kennesaw State is the individual leader at 143. Chandler Brazeal of Wofford is at even par 144.

            The 54-hole tournament hosted by Michigan State concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday, October 5.
