#7-Spartans Top-Three At Wolf Pack Classic

Stateline, Nev. - With 36 holes in the books,  #7-ranked San Jose State men's golf is in third place out of 14 teams at the 2011 Wolf Pack Classic in Stateline, Nev.

The Spartans as a team shot 295-300-595 (+19) on the 7,445-yard par 72 Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, putting them behind second place Loyola Marymount at 592 (+16) and the leader Nevada at 585 (+9).

Jay Myers is the low man individually for San Jose State. The senior shot 72-73-145 (+1) and sits in a tie for fourth place with Loyola's Bryan Bergna and Denver's Ole Ramsnes.

Daniel Semmler went low for the Spartans in the morning with a one-under par 71 and finished things up with a four-over 76 to rest in a tie for tenth with Nevada's Kevin Lucas at +3.

"We had outstanding play from Jay and Daniel," said San Jose State head coach John Kennaday. "Those two and everyone else will have to step up for us in tomorrow's round."

Matthew Hovan went 75-76-151 (+7) and is in a tie for 26th individually and close behind is teammate Justin Estrada who shot 77-75-152 (+8), tied for 36th.

Christopher Lang rounded out the Spartan five going 77-81-158 (+14) and is in a tie for 67th.

Jordan Weir of Sacramento State, Gustavo Chuang of Nevada and Wyoming's Jake Hedge as an individual are in a three-way tie atop the leader board at even-par 144.

"We play to win every tournament," said Kennaday. "Our team will have to play better and handle the weather better in tomorrow's round."

The Wolf Pack Classic concludes tomorrow, October 4 with 18 holes and a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
