Men's Golf Top Three At Dash Thomas Memorial

Meridian, Idaho -- Cody Blickensderfer's season-low 67 led San Jose State on the final day of the Dash Thomas Memorial in Meridian, Idaho on September 25.

Blickensderfer's four-under round was the second best 18-hole score of the day, and helped the Spartans to a 283 (-1) team score in the final round. San Jose State shot 283-284-283-850 (-2) for the tournament and tied with Winthrop for third place out of 13 teams.

Blickensderfer ended up as the Spartans' low man at the Dash Thomas shooting 69-75-67-211 (-2). The freshman finished tied for fifth place on the player leader board.

"It was great to see the freshman kicking it into gear," said Spartans' head coach John Kennaday. "We did good things, but I want us to be better at shots under 100 yards."

San Jose State led the field in par five scoring at a combined -25. Thanks in part to Connor Covington's stellar play on the par fives where he was -7 for the week. Covington was also -2 on par threes and his 13 birdies helped the Spartans to a tournament leading 55 birdies.

Covington shot 70-69-74-213 and tied for 11th place.

Daniel Semmler and Justin Estrada had identical scores in all three rounds, shooting 72-70-72-214 (+1). The two Spartans combined for 23 birdies this week and finished tied in 15th place.

Taylor Bromley's 72 in the final round was his lowest for the tournament. He shot 73-75-72-220 and tied for 37th place.

Washington State won the tournament with a nine-under par 843. They had three players finish inside the top-10 on the player leader board. Mason Casper of Utah Valley took medalist honors shooting a seven-under par 206 for the tournament.

The Dash Thomas Memorial was San Jose State's best result so far of the fall season. They shot under par as a team in two of the three rounds and had six 18-hole scores in red figures with three in the 60's.

"We can improve on the par fours," Kennaday said. "We're close to being at the level we want as a team."

The Spartans' next event is the Alister MacKenzie Invitational on October 15-16 at Meadow Club in Fairfax Calif.
