PULLMAN, Wash. -- San Jose State University sits atop of the leader board after the first 36 holes of the 2011 Palouse Collegiate Invitational in Pullman, Wash.
At 563 strokes, the Spartans lead is at nine shots over host Washington State and the University of Idaho who are in a tie for second place at 572 strokes.
Christopher Lang shot a three-under par 68 and Jay Myers fired a two-under par 69 in their opening rounds. They were two of only 12 players in the field of 79 who managed a round in the 60's.
Lang and Myers' total of 140 puts them in a tie for third place individually after two rounds on the 7,308-yard par 71 Palouse Ridge Golf Club.
Matthew Hovan had a one-under par 70 in his afternoon round giving him a level par 142 total. Hovan and teammate Justin Estrada who also finished the day with a 142 sit in a tie for 8th place individually.
"I thought we stuck to the game plan pretty well today," said San Jose State head coach John Kennaday. "It takes a lot of preparation over every shot to play well here and everyone did that today."
Jarred Bossio of the University of Idaho had rounds of 65-68 and is the individual leader in the clubhouse at 133.
The 54-hole tournament concludes on September 13 with final-round tee times beginning at 7:15 a.m.
