Three Top-10 Spartans in Pro Tour Events

Arron Oberholser, Janice Moodie and Pat Hurst all posted top-10 finishes in professional golf action that concluded on September 3.

Oberholser finished in a three-way tie for second place at the Deutsche Bank Championship in Norton, Massachusetts. The three-time All-American posted a 72-hole score of 270 in his best finish of the year. He was tied by Tiger Woods and third-round leader Brett Wetterich on the final hole and finished two strokes behind first-place finisher Phil Mickelson.

The Deutsche Bank Championship is the second of four FEDEX Cup tournaments that lead to The Players’ Tour Championship, the final event of the PGA Tour season. With his tie for second place, Oberholser made the biggest jump of any of the 120 players in contention for the Players Tour title going from 67th place to 29th in the points standings. The former Spartan must be in the top-30 in the points standings after next weekend’s BMW Championship, September 6-9, in Lemont, Ill., to advance to the Players Tour Championship in Atlanta, Ga.

Moodie and Hurst both tied for ninth place at the LPGA State Farm Classic in Springfield, Ill. Each player posted a nine-under par total of 279. For Moodie, the four-time All-American from Scotland, it was her second top-10 and fourth top-20 finish of he 2007 season. Hurst recorded her third top-10 and seventh top-20 placing of the year. They finished eight strokes behind tournament winner Sheri Steinhauer, who had a 271 total.
