Oberholser - 45th; Hurst & Moodie Notch Match Play Wins

Arron Oberholser posted his best British Open championship finish and two former San Jose State University women’s golf stars, Pat Hurst and Janice Moodie, each won a match at the HSBC Women’s World Match Play tournament in New Rochelle, N.Y., in professional golf action involving San Jose State stars.

Oberholser tied for 45th place with a final round 74 for a six-over par 290 total. Padraig Harrington of Ireland and Sergio Garcia tied after 72 holes with scores of 277 for first place. Harrington was one stroke better in a four-hole playoff for the 136th British Open championship.

Moodie and Hurst each won a first-round match in the 64-player field. Juli Inkster, a third San Jose State alumna participant, lost her first round match to Hye Jung Choi, 5-and-4.

Hurst, the 1989 NCAA individual champion on the Spartans’ championship team, captured her second-round match while Moodie fell to Seon Hwa Lee, 5-4. Meaghan Franchella ended Hurst’s hopes in the round of 16, 2&1.
