Blick Struggles On Day Two Of NCAA Regional

Tempe, Ariz. – Cody Blick hit only seven fairways in regulation and shot a seven-over par 77 on day two of the 2013 NCAA Men’s Golf Regional Championship.  After two rounds, he sits in a tie for 61st place at eight-over par.

Blick, teeing off on the 10th, a hole he struggled with in round one, was off the green in two and left his chip shot six feet short of the hole.  His par putt burned the edge of the cup and he carded a bogey.  It was a trend that would continue throughout round.

After a pair of pars on the 7,036 yards, par 70, Karsten Golf Course, Blick began a stretch of four straight holes in which he missed the green on his approach shot.  He ended up with bogey on three of them.

He fought back with a birdie on the par five 17th-hole, his eighth of the day.  He found the center of the fairway and put his second shot 40 feet short of the cup, on the 581-yard hole.  A chip to within two feet and one put gave him his first birdie of the round and got him back to three-over on the day.

However, he missed the green on his next hole and after a wayward pitch, it took him three strokes to get down.  He double bogeyed the hole and made the turn at five-over par 41.

On the first hole of his back nine, the first hole on the course, his approach landed off the left side of the green.  A downhill chip left him five feet for birdie, but he again burned the edge of the cup and recorded a bogey.

His next three holes included two pars, on his 11th and 12th holes of the day, and a birdie on his 13th, the 420-yard par four fourth.  Blick’s second shot was to four feet and he rolled in the birdie for a three, moving back five-over for the day.

In a repeat of what happened on his previous birdie, he bogeyed the next hole to drop back to six-over.  He parred the next three holes but bogeyed his last, the ninth for a 77.

UCF’s Greg Easton leads the tournament for individual medalist by six strokes.  He is at 12-under par.  Brandon Dalinka is the low individual not on a team inside the cut line.  If the tournament ended today, he would earn the automatic invitation to the NCAA Championship.

UCLA shots a seven-under 273, have a two round total of 541 and leads UCF by 11 strokes in the team competition.  With five teams advancing to the NCAA Championship, after two rounds six teams at the Tempe Regional are inside the cut line.

Blick tees off at 9:12 a.m. on Saturday in the final round.  Fans can follow the action at
