The charge for an NCAA Championship appearance begins May 17th for the San Jose State University men's golf team at the Stanford Regional Tournament hosted at the Stanford Golf Course.
The Western Athletic Conference champion Spartans are one of 81 teams across the nation vying for a spot in the NCAA Championship tournament in Pacific Palisades, Calif., on May 28-June 2.
Other teams selected to the Stanford Regional include: #2-California, #8-Stanford, #14-San Diego State, #22-UCF, #25-LSU, UAB, Wichita State, Tennessee, Oregon State, Southern Louisiana, San Francisco and UC Davis. The top five teams at the end of the 54-hole tournament will move onto the NCAA Championship.
For the opening round San Jose State is paired with Southern Louisiana and the University of San Francisco with tee times beginning at 9:15 a.m. PDT on the first hole.
Senior Jay Myers, the 2012 WAC Champion medalist will head the Spartans' lineup and is joined by Matthew Hovan, Justin Estrada, Christopher Lang and Connor Covington. Myers, Hovan and Estrada all played in the lineup on last year's team that was selected to the NCAA Regional in Erie, Colo. Should this crew advance to the NCAA Championship this year, it would be the first time for San Jose State since the 1997 season.
The field will play 18 holes each day and there is no admission charge for spectators at the 6,742-yard par 70 Stanford Golf Course. Live statistics for all three rounds will be available at www.golfstat.com.
