San Jose, Calif. - San Jose State University freshman Cody Blick is one of five individuals invited to compete in the 2013 NCAA Men’s Golf Tempe Regional Championships, May 16-18, at the ASU Karsten Golf Course.
The 2013 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Player and Freshman of the Year and first-team All-WAC selection will compete along with 14 teams and four other individuals in taking the first step to the NCAA Championships, May 28-June 2, at the Capital City Club, Crabapple Course in Atlanta, Ga.
All 75 players in the Tempe Regional are competing for the individual championship on the par 70, 7036-yard ASU Karsten Golf Course. The top five teams and the highest finishing individual not affiliated with those teams advance to the NCAA Championship.
In the 2012-13 regular season Blick, a native of Danville, Calif., led the Spartans with a 72.83 stroke average in 36 rounds of play. He had three top-10 finishes in the team’s 12 tournaments. His best finish was a tie for second place at the Duck Invitational in Eugene, Ore., where he equaled his best three-round total of the season with a 210.
The teams competing in the Tempe Regional in rank order are UCLA, Duke, Georgia, Texas A&M, Clemson, Vanderbilt, UCF, North Carolina, Arizona State, Kennesaw State, Arizona, Austin Peay, New Mexico State and Lehigh.
Along with Blick, the four individuals competing are Glen Scher (UC Santa Barbara), Rufie Fessler (Fresno State), Kyle Westmoreland (Air Force) and Tyler Torano (Loyola Marymount).
