San Jose, Calif. – Returning to the 7,313-yard par 72 Rio Secco Golf Club in Henderson, Nev., where they won the 2012 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championship, the San Jose State men’s golf team is set to defend their title beginning Monday April 29.
Ranked 99th in the nation, San Jose State is the third-highest rated WAC team according to the April 24 GolfStat team rankings, trailing #93-UT Arlington and #96-Louisiana Tech. Other WAC ranks include: #100-Denver, #104-UTSA, #108-Idaho, #113-Texas State, #131-New Mexico State, #200-Utah State and #227-Seattle U.
Head coach John Kennaday, in his eighth season, has team stroke-average leader Cody Blick (72.61) heading the Spartan lineup for the championship. Justin Estrada (72.94), Connor Covington (73.79), Daniel Semmler (73.91) and Landon Polterock (77.00) join Blick in the lineup.
San Jose State enters the contest as the defending team champion. Blick, #239 in the April 24 Golfstat rankings, is the Championships only individual player to appear in the top-250.
The 54-hole tournament is spread across three days with 18 holes played each day. Tee times featuring twosomes will begin at 7:00 a.m. with the Spartans first player going off at 7:40 a.m. Live statistics will be available throughout the championship at www.golfstat.com.
