Men's Golf 14th After 36 At U.S. Intercollegiate

Stanford, Calif.-----Mark Hubbard and Stephan Stallworth each posted 36-hole scores of 148 as San Jose State University finds itself in 14th place heading into the final round of the U.S. Intercollegiate men’s golf tournament hosted by Stanford University.

Hubbard, a freshman from Denver, Colo., made a nice recovery after a rough start on the par 70, 6,742-yard course. He played the final five holes of his first round one-under par without a bogey and had the Spartans’ best individual score of the day in the afternoon round with a three-over 73.

Stallworth’s pair of 74’s was accomplished in two distinct ways. He did not have a birdie in his morning round and finished his afternoon 18 with two of his three birdies over his final four holes. Hubbard and Stallworth are tied for 35th place,

In the team competition, San Jose State has a 603 score. The Spartans are seven shots away from tenth place UC Davis in the 17-team field that includes four-top-25 and eight top-50 teams according to GolfStat.

Southern California is the team leader at 554 and has an 18-shot advantage over Stanford, second at 572. UCLA at 574, California at 577 and UC Irvine at 581 round out the top five teams.

Southern California has three of the top four individuals in the 88-player field. Rory Hie, who opened the tournament with an eight-under 62, is in first-place at 133. Hie’s teammate, Tom Glissmeyer, is second at 139 and is the only other player under par. USC’s Jamie Lovemark, the 2007 NCAA champion, is tied for third at even par 140.

The tournament concludes with 18 holes on April 20. There is no admission charge and free parking is available at the golf course and near the horse stables that are adjacent to holes on the front nine of the course. San Jose State has tee times ranging from 8:00 to 8:40 a.m. at the 10th tee.
