Spartans Finish 12th At ASU Thunderbird

Tempe, Ariz.----San Jose State posted an 883 team score and finished tied for 12th place in the field that included 12 top-100 teams at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational men's golf tournament.

Southern California took the team title with 15-under par 837. San Diego State at one-under par 851 and UNLV at 5-over par 857 rounded out the top three teams in the 13-team field on the par-71 Karsten Golf Course.

The Spartans, ranked 75th by golfstat.com, posted a 7-over par 291 in the third round, ahead of No. 40 Pepperdine and No. 64 Colorado State.

Matthew Hovan led the Spartans with a 217 and tied for 27th place in the 75-player field. Jay Myers finished tied for 40th posting a 220 and Mark Hubbard tied for 49th posted a 222.

Daniel Semmler tied for 64th and Drew Nottenkamper at 73rd, posted a 227 and 233. Nick Brown, playing as an individual entry, posted a 226 and finished 60th.

The Spartans return to action next weekend playing host in the 65th annual Western Intercollegiate in Santa Cruz, California on April 16-17.
