Hubbard Tied For 15th At Wyoming Cowboy Classic Golf

Scottsdale, Ariz.-----Mark Hubbard shot a three-under par 67 and San Jose State University had a 16-stroke team improvement in the second round to highlight first day’s action at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic men’s golf tournament.

    Hubbard, opening a tournament with an under par score for the second time in eight days, is the top San Jose State individual after 36 holes on the par 70, 7,133-yard Talking Stick Golf Course with his 141 total. The sophomore from Denver had an opening round 69 at the 63rd annual Western Intercollegiate at Pasatiempo on March 29.

    As a team, the Spartans had a 301 team score in the morning and were 16th after the first round. A five-over par 285 helped San Jose State move up two spots in the 20-team tournament. The Spartans are just five shots out of tenth place.

    UC Davis leads the team competition with a 558 score. Northwestern and Oregon State are tied for second at 560.

    Morten Madsen of Oregon State is the individual leader at 133. He is the only golfer in the 118-player field to be under par in each of the first two rounds with scores of 66 and 67. Austin Graham of UC Davis and David Lipsky of Northwestern are tied for second at 137. Only 10 players in the 118-player field are under par after 36 holes.

    Hubbard is tied for 15th place and is the one San Jose State player in the top-20. Nick Brown at 145 is tied for 41st place. Brown and Aaron Conrad were the top Spartans in the afternoon round with even par 70’s. Conrad is at 148 and tied for 68th place.

    Jay Myers had the biggest individual improvement between the first and second round with a 71, 10 strokes better than his first round of 81. The Spartans did not count the 83 nor the 79 of Nick Podesta, playing in his first tournament of the season.

    The 54-hole tournament concludes with 18 holes on April 7.
