Men's Golf Finishes 16th At U.S. Intercollegiate

Stanford, Calif. – For the second straight day, the San Jose State men’s golf team struggled at the 45th U.S. Intercollegiate Golf Tournament shooting a 16-over 296 and finishing in 16th place.

The best round of the day for the Spartans came from Cody Blick, who bounced back from a 75 yesterday to card a three-over 73 on the par-70, 6,727-yard Stanford Golf Course.

Starting on the 10th hole, Blick went out in 39 but came home in one-under 34.  He ended up in a tie for 34th place with a three-round total of 214 (+4).

Justin Estrada opened with a five-over 40 on his first nine holes.  He turned it around on his back nine with six pars, two birdies and a bogey for an inward 34.  His 74 on the day gave him a three-day total of 214 (+4) and a 34th place tie.

Daniel Semmler, had four birdies on the day, two on each side.  He made the turn at even par, but on his back nine he was four-over and ended the day with a 74.  He finished at 218 (+8) for the tournament and in a tie for 53rd place.

In a tie for 62nd place, Taylor Bromley, playing as an individual, shot a seven-over 77 and a three-round total of 220 (+10).  Bromley went out in 39 with a bogey, on the second hole, and a triple bogey on the sixth hole.  He shot three-over on the backside with one birdie, on the 16th.

Connor Covington was even through his first five holes, but a triple bogey on the 15th, his sixth of the day, and another bogey on the 17th left him at four-over at the turn.  On his final nine holes, he sandwiched one bogey between eight pars and posted a five-over 75.  He finished in a tie for 76th place with a 222 (+12) total.

Landon Polterock had one birdie on the day, went out in 40 and came home in 39 for a nine-over 79.  He ended the tournament at 230 (+20) and in a tie for 91st place.

Stanford’s Cardinal team finished the tournament at 23-under (817) and won by six strokes over TCU.  The individual medalists, TCU’s Paul Barjon, posted a 67 on Saturday for a three-round score of 199 for a three-stroke victory.

The Spartans have two weeks off and will get back to action on April 13 & 14.  They host the 67th Transamerica/WFG Western Intercollegiate at Pasatiempo Golf Course in Santa Cruz, Calif.
