Men's Golf 16th At Linger Longer Invitational

Greensboro, Ga.-----The San Jose State University men's golf team had its best 18-hole team score of the 54-hole tournament and finished 16th in the 16-team field of the Linger Longer Invitational.

            The Spartans posted a 304 final round score, a 15-stroke improvement over the middle round and nine better than the opening round for a 936 total on the par 72, 7,005-yard Reynolds Landing Golf Course. San Jose State had 13 birdies for their five players over the last 18 holes, just one less than their two-day total of 14.

            Jay Myers, Nick Brown and Stephan Stallworth all had their best score in the final round with a 74, 75 and 76, respectively. Myers was the top Spartan individual tying for 55th place at 231.

            Mark Hubbard, who missed the second round due to muscle discomfort in his back, and Rosco Valentine each shot a 79.

            Oklahoma State with an 865 held off Alabama's 867 for the team title. Eight of the top 50 teams in the country competed in this year's Linger Longer Invitational.

            Alabama's Ben Cauley completed a start-to-finish individual victory with a 204 total. Only three players in the 93-player field were under par at the finish.

            San Jose State returns to action April 11-13 at the U.S. Intercollegiate hosted by Stanford University at the Stanford University Golf Course.
