Men's Golf 13th At Linger Longer Invitational After 18

Greensboro, Ga.-----On a day when only three players in a 93-player field were under par, San Jose State University finished the first round of the Linger Longer Invitational men's golf tournament in 13th place.

The Spartans posted a team score of 313 on the par 72, 7,005-yard Reynolds Plantation Landing course. Furman and #2-ranked Oklahoma State share the team lead at 293. #24-ranked Alabama is third at 294. No other team in the 16-team field that features eight of the top-50 teams nationally, had a score under 300 in the five-player, score-four format.

Stephan Stwallworth and Mark Hubbard were the top two San Jose State finishers in the opening round with five-over par 77's. The average score for the first 18 holes was 77.75.

Nick Brown with a 78 and 81's by Jay Myers and Rosco Valentine rounded out the Spartans' efforts for the first of three days at what several locals call the second best golf course to Augusta National in the state of Georgia. San Jose State is the only team west of the Rocky Mountains entered in the tournament.

Alabama's Bud Cauley was the only player with a sub-70 score in the first round. His eight-under par 64 is six shots better than Oklahoma State's Sean Einhaus, who shot a 70. Austin Reeves of Furman is the only other player under par with a one-under 71.
