Spartans Remain Fifth After 36 At Bandon

BANDON, Ore. -- All 15 teams in the Bandon Dunes Championship field finished over par in round two on March 17. San Jose State shaved three strokes off of yesterday's total with an eight-over par 292 and maintained their position in a tie for fifth place.

With a 36-hole total of 587 (+19) San Jose State is 16 strokes off of the tournament lead held by the #3-ranked Washington Huskies.

"We have a lot of room for improvement," said Spartans' head coach John Kennaday. "It's a good thing that we made a small improvement, but we've got to play better."

Justin Estrada got out to a hot start with birdies on three of the first four holes. He maintained a three-under par score until a bogey on the 15th and a double-bogey on 17 brought the round back to even where he finished.

Jay Myers followed suite by rolling in three birdies of his own. He went on to finish round two at even par, putting him at 146 (+4) alongside teammates Estrada and Matthew Hovan in a tie for 18th place individually. Hovan finished with a three-over 74 in round two.

Daniel Semmler shot a 76 (+5) bringing his total to seven-over 149 and Christopher Lang finished with a 79 (+8) putting him at 163 (+21).

Chris Williams of Washington is the 36-hole individual leader at 138 (-4). He holds a two-stroke lead over Oregon's Rak Cho.

The Bandon Dunes Championship concludes Sunday with the final 18 holes. Live stats will be available at www.golfstat.com.
