Spartans Tied For Fifth After 18 At Bandon Dunes

BANDON, Ore. -- San Jose State finished in the top third of the field with a 295 (+11) on the first 18 holes of the Bandon Dunes Championship in Bandon, Ore., on March 16.


The Spartans, Long Beach State and British Columbia are all tied in fifth place, 11 strokes off the lead held by #3-ranked Washington at even par.


Senior Matthew Hovan was the low man for San Jose State on the 6,743-yard par 71 Bandon Trails Course. Hovan carded a 72 (+1) with three birdies and sunk a birdie putt on the final hole to give him an even-par 36 on his second nine.


Daniel Semmler played holes one through nine at one-under par with two birdies and finished the day in a tie for 19th place at +2.


Justin Estrada and Jay Myers both shot 75 (+4) and Christopher Lang rounded out the Spartans' starting five with an 84 (+13).


Oregon's Jonathan Woo fired a 68 (-3) and is leading the championship as an individual entrant.
