Men's Golf 14th At Callaway Golf Invite

Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.-----Rosco Valentine’s even par 72 was the only San Jose State score to match or better par in the final round of the Callaway Golf Invitational men’s golf tournament hosted by the University of San Diego.

The Spartans finished 14th in the team standings with a 915 total for 54 holes on the Farms Golf Course which played to a par 72 over 6,911 yards. Wichita State took home top team honors with an 853 total. Host San Diego was second at 861 edging Saint Mary’s that posted an 862.

“We’re going through growing pains and it hurts. We’re far more capable than what we’re putting up on the boards. This is the second tournament in a row that we’ve been our own worst enemy,” said San Jose State coach John Kennaday.

“This team has a great deal of character and I’m confident we’ll make it through this as winners. We have to reach down, take a good hard look and change our approach.”

Dustin Garza of Wichita was the top individual with a six-under par 210. Joshua Kelly of Saint Mary’s was second at 212.

Miguel Camitoc was the top San Jose State finisher tying for 34th place at 225.
