Blick & Semmler Lead Charge To 2nd At Bandon Dunes

Bandon, Ore.-----One of four teams to shoot par or better in the second round, San Jose State University moved from fifth to second place heading into the final round of the Bandon Dunes Championship men's golf tournament.

The Spartans have a 36-hole total of 583 on the par 72, Old Macdonald Black Course along the Southern Oregon Coast. San Jose State trails team Colorado by six shots and is one ahead of Oregon's 584. University of Missouri-Kansas City is fourth at 588.  #14-ranked SMU and Fresno State are tied for fifth at 589 in the 18-team field that includes #2-UCLA and #3-Washington.

Freshman Cody Blick led San Jose State in the second round with a two-under 70. After a bogey on his opening hole, #11, the slender first-year player ran off birdies on 15, 16 and 17 and then played the front nine in even par. His two-day total of one-under par 143 puts him in a four-way third-place tie in the race for medalist honors.

Daniel Semmler notched his second consecutive even par score for a 144 total and a three-way tie for seventh place. Semmler had three birdies and three bogeys in his second round compared to four birdies and four bogeys in round one.

The Spartans also counted one-over par rounds from Landon Polterock and Connor Covington for their 288 team score on day two of the 54-hole tournament.

Pacific's Byron Meth had the day's low score of four-under 68 for a 140 total to move into first place. First round leader Troix Tonkham of Fresno State is second at 141 after a one-under 71. Tonkham is the only golfer in the 95-player field under par in each of the first two rounds.
