Camitoc's 69 Tops Spartans At Callaway Invitational

Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.-----Freshman Miguel Camitoc fired his first under-par round of his college career, a three-under par 69, highlighting San Jose State University’s first-day effort at the Callaway Golf Invitational men’s golf tournament.

Playing in his second tournament of the season, Camitoc was one of three players in the morning round to post a sub-70 score and stands tied for 24th place at 149 after 36 holes on the par 72, 6,911-yard The Farms Golf Course. He is nine strokes behind co-leaders Ryan Spears and Dustin Garza of Wichita State and Saint Mary’s Joshua Kelley. Only seven of the 80 players in the field were under-par or at level par after the tournament’s first day.

In the team competition, San Jose State is in 14th place with a 615 total. Wichita State leads with a 570. Host University of San Diego is second at 576. Saint Mary’s at 579, Arkansas at 587 and UC Santa Barbara at 589 round out the top-five teams.

The 54-hole tournament concludes with 18 holes on March 11.
