Men's Golf Opens Spring Season At John Burns Intercollegiate

The San Jose State University men’s golf team opens its 2008 spring season at the John Burns Intercollegiate, Wednesday, February 20.

The par 72 Leilehua Golf Course in Wahiawa, Hawaii hosts the 54-hole tournament. Teams will play 18 holes each day with the best four scores from each five-man team counting towards the total.

The Spartans finished the 2007 fall season with a fourth and two strong sixth place finishes in five tournaments. San Jose State set a school-record with a 19-under par team total at the Pacific Invitational.

Sophomores Stephan Stallworth and Drew Nottenkamper, junior Rosco Valentine and freshmen Peter Gibbs and Mark Hubbard look to pick up where they left off last fall. Stallworth had the lowest stroke average in the fall at 71.93. Gibbs was next at 72.00. Hubbard at 72.42, Nottenkamper, 73.80, and Valentine, 74.47, all had at least four rounds of level par or better in the fall.
