Jay Myers - WAC Men's Golfer of the Week

Denver, Colo.----- San Jose State’s Jay Myers has been named the Western Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week for February 9-15.

Myers, a freshman from San Jose, Calif. (Branham HS), led the Spartans to their first tournament title since 2005 with his third place finish in the Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational played Feb. 9-10, in St. George, Utah.  Myers posted a one-under 143 (71-72) for the rain-shortened two-round tournament.  He was one of just three players to finish under par.  It was Myers’ best finish of the 2008-09 season and his third straight top-10 finish.

The other men’s nominations were Boise State junior John Baranco and Utah State senior Tyler Labrum.

The Spartans return to action on February 18 at the John Burns Invitational in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. Myers takes his 71.93 stroke average into the 54-hole tournament that includes 14 top-100 teams.
