Murray leads Spartans at Amer Ari Invitational

Waikaloa, Hawai’i--- The San José State University men’s golf team teed off for the first time this Spring at Waikaloa Kings Course Thursday, and wrapped up round one of the Amer Ari Invitational with a final score of four over-par 292 tied for 13th place.

Matthew Murray was the only Spartan to go under-par on the day. He finished his round with five birdies at one-under par 71, and is tied for 30th in the tournament.

Kevin Velo shot a 72, an even par, and is tied for 43rd. During his round he shot four birdies with three of them on the back nine.

William Barnett finished his round at one-over par 73 tied for 58th. He made four birdies and 10 pars in round one.

Sean Talmadge led the Spartans in pars by shooting 12 on the day. In his first round he shot a four-over par 76 and is tied for 95th.

Scott Munger shot an eight-over par 80 and is tied for 116th.



Texas Tech is the team leader at 18-under par 270. USC is second at 15-under 273.

Jared duToit and Kyle Suppa who both shot eight-under par 64, and are tied for first place in the 120 player field. DuToit didn’t even record a bogey on his first round, shooting eight birdies. Kyle Suppa shot eight birdies, and an eagle on the final hole to cap off his day at the Amer Ari Invitational.
