Golf Digest, the world's leading golf publication, ranked the 65th annual Western Intercollegiate men's golf tournament hosted by San Jose State University as the eighth best among 2011 NCAA Division I spring tournaments.
Staff writer Ryan Herrington who covers men's and women's college golf extensively for Golf Digest and Golf World, evaluated every spring season event and ranked tournaments in order of the number of teams receiving votes in the final fall Golf World/NGCA coaches poll.
Defending NCAA champion Augusta State, California, 2010 Western Intercollegiate champion Oregon, San Diego State, Stanford, UCLA, and Washington are seven top-25 ranked teams in the Golf World coaches poll among the 15 universities in the 65th annual Western Intercollegiate field. Arizona State and Southern California are two more schools that received votes in the final fall poll.
The 65th annual Western Intercollegiate, the longest running men's college tournament west of the Mississippi River, takes place, April 16 & 17, at the famed Pasatiempo Golf Course in Santa Cruz, Calif. A college-am also is set for April 15.
