El Paso, Texas --- A trio of Spartans with rounds in the 60's, including Landon Polterock's career-low 66 (-6), boosted San José State to a 13-under 275 in round two of the Price's Give `Em Five Invitational on Saturday.
It was the lowest team round of the fall season (11 rounds), and a 12-shot improvement from Friday's opening round. San José State moved up three spots into a tie for seventh place out of the 14 teams playing the 7,307-yard par 72 Butterfield Trail Golf Club.
Polterock began his day +1 after the first two holes, but then locked in to go -7 on the remainder of the round. He capped the day off with birdies on four of his last five, vaulting him up 14 spots on the individual leader board into a tie for 10th place at -8.
Among the three-way tie for 10th place is Polterock's teammate Cody Blick, who was also under par for the second consecutive day. Blick, ranked 40th by the October 22 Golfstat player standings, made four birdies and one bogey in round two. He ended the day with a birdie on the 403-yard par four ninth hole.
Henrik Sohlberg bounced back from his opening-round 77, by firing a 68 (-4) Saturday. The redshirt freshman made four birdies on his first nine holes for a 32. He heads into the final round in a tie for 54th place.
Scott Munger made his second eagle in as many days on the way to an even-par 72. It was a 10-shot turnaround from Friday's round for Munger, who moved up a couple spots into a tie for 82nd place.
#43-New Mexico State holds the 36-hole team lead at -33. New Mexico State's Isaac Merry leads all individuals at -14.
The third and final round of the Price's Give `Em Five Invitational begins with tee times at 8:00 a.m. MT on Sunday.
