Fairfax, Calif. --- San José State men's golf is in 14th place out of 16 teams at the end of day one at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational in Fairfax, Calif.
The Spartans were +10 (284-294-578) as a team in the first two rounds of the 54-hole event at the 6,734-yard par 71 Meadow Club.
Consistency was an issue for SJSU on Monday.
Henrik Sohlberg got out to a fantastic start with a three-under 68 in round one. However, a second-round 80 (+9) dropped him back to a tie for 67th place. Sohlberg made six birdies in his opening round, four of which came on the front-nine where he went out with a 31.
Cody Blick had the low round of the day for SJSU, a four-under 67 in the second round. Three consecutive birdies on his 11-13th holes were key to a solid afternoon round. The run helped Blick jump up 32 spots into a tie for ninth place on the leader board after shooting even par on his first 18 holes.
The top of both the team and individual leader boards are tight after 36 holes. Arizona State holds the team lead at -19. Host, California is a close second at -17, closely followed by Oregon State at -16.
Colorado's Yannik Paul at -9 (66-67-133) holds a one-shot lead over Arizona State's Max Rottluff (68-66-134, -8) and California's Sebastian Crampton (68-66-134, -8).
The Alister MacKenzie Invitational concludes Tuesday with one final round beginning with a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m. PDT. Live team and individual scoring updates are available via Golfstat.
